Here’s an update on burglary locally. I am pleased to share some positive news following a successful proactive operation involving the Chessington Safer Neighbourhood Team and Twickenham Emergency Response Team.
Whilst deployed on dedicated burglary patrols (Op VENDO), officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress at an address on Priory Road, Chessington. Thanks to the swift response, teamwork and proactive policing, officers apprehended two suspects whilst they were actively committing a burglary.
Both suspects were arrested for burglary offences and stolen property was recovered. Enquiries have also linked the suspects to a further burglary offence in the Tolworth area.
This is an excellent result and highlights the value of targeted patrols, rapid reporting from residents, and the close partnership working between our local neighbourhood officers and emergency response colleagues.
Whilst this outcome is extremely positive, it serves as a reminder that burglaries do happen in this area, particularly during the summer months when windows and doors may be left open more frequently.
There are a number of simple steps residents can take to help protect their homes:
• Always lock doors and windows, even if you are only leaving the property for a short time.
• Keep keys, handbags, wallets and other valuables out of sight and away from doors and windows.
• Consider installing CCTV, burglar alarms or video doorbells.
• Use timer switches on lights when away from home to create the impression that someone is present.
• Secure side gates, sheds and garages with suitable locks.
• Keep valuable items out of sight and avoid leaving packaging from expensive purchases outside your property.
• Install security lighting around vulnerable access points.
• Be vigilant and report suspicious behaviour immediately. Call 999 if a crime is in progress or 101 for non-emergency matters.
Burglary can have a significant impact on victims, and we remain committed to tackling offenders, protecting residents and keeping our communities safe.
